Child/Adolescent Neuropsychological & Educational Assessment

Children with undiagnosed and unmanaged problems with learning and attention face higher risks of academic difficulties and fewer life opportunities as they grow older. Obtaining an accurate diagnosis is an important first step to ensure children receive the appropriate resources at school and appropriate treatment plan with their healthcare providers.

Interview

Initial Interview

During the initial interview, Dr. Gourvitz takes a thorough history of your child and family.  He develops a collection of background information and a review of current concerns to determine the type of assessment to complete.  Dr. Gourvitz will review pertinent medical records, report cards, standardized test, and other relevant records.  For your convenience, we provide a checklist of documents needed for child/adolescent neuropsychological testing.

Testing

Testing Session

Scoring, & Analysis

The testing session is typically done over a 2-4 day period and lasts from 4-6 hours, depending on your child and what is needed.  During the evaluation, your child completes various performance tasks that will objectively measure their abilities.  Our team works hard to make these activities fun and low stress.

When possible, Dr. Gourvitz meets with your child’s teacher(s) to get a direct picture of how your child presents in the school setting. He may also speak to caretakers, family members, therapists, and physicians.

Within two weeks of the last appointment, a full report will be prepared for you.
